Transcribe Audio to Text With Timestamps

Every line of your transcript gets a start time, and clicking it plays the recording from that moment. Timestamps are included on every plan, free too; SRT and VTT subtitle files with timing come with the paid plans.

Click Any Line to Play From That Moment

Every line of the transcript shows its start time as HH:MM:SS. Click the line or the time and the player moves straight to that point in the audio or video, so a two-hour interview becomes something you can read and spot-check instead of scrub through. Combine it with the search box: type a word, the matching lines are highlighted, and clicking one takes you to where it was said. This works on every plan, free included.

Timing for Every Segment, Not Every Word

Hear2Text times each segment, a sentence or two, with a start and an end, rather than each word. That is the unit you need to verify a quote, pick a clip or build subtitles, and it keeps the transcript readable. In the paragraph view you can show the times or hide them for clean reading. When you need timing outside the browser, SRT and VTT exports on the paid plans carry every segment's start and end time.

Use Cases

  • Checking quotes

A journalist or researcher transcribes an interview, searches for the quote, clicks the line and hears exactly how it was said before citing it with its time.

  • Reviewing long videos

A student or team member reads a recorded lecture or meeting and clicks straight to the part they need instead of watching it again from the start.

  • Picking clips

A podcaster or video editor reads the transcript, notes the start and end times of the best moments and cuts them in their own editor.

How Timestamps Are Added to Your Transcript

There is nothing to configure. Upload a file or paste a public link, and the transcript comes back split into timed segments, in any of the 100 languages detected automatically.

  1. Step 01

    Upload or paste a link

Add an audio or video file up to 500 MB and 6 hours, or paste a public YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok or other link.

  2. Step 02

Speech is split into timed segments

The transcript is divided into segments of a sentence or two, each with a start and end time.

  3. Step 03

    Times appear beside each line

Each line shows its start time as HH:MM:SS. Show or hide the times in the paragraph view.

  4. Step 04

    Click to play, or export

Click a line to hear it. On the paid plans, download SRT or VTT with the timing kept.

Key Features

  • A time on every segment

Each sentence or two has a start and end time. Timing is per segment, not per word.

  • Click to play

Click a line or its timestamp and the player jumps to that moment in the audio or video.

  • SRT and VTT subtitles

On the paid plans, export numbered subtitle cues with start and end times for YouTube, Vimeo and video editors.

  • Search, then jump

The search box highlights the lines containing your word; click one to hear it in context.

  • Show or hide the times

Read the transcript as clean paragraphs, or keep the HH:MM:SS times visible while you check it.

  • Edits carry into subtitles

Correct a word in the browser and your SRT and VTT files include the fix. TXT, Word and PDF exports are plain text without times.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are the timestamps?
They are accurate to the segment. Each segment, usually a sentence or two, gets a start and end time taken from the recording, so clicking it starts playback where that sentence begins. They are not per word, so you cannot jump to a single word inside a line. Clear audio gives the cleanest boundaries; crosstalk, music under speech or long pauses can shift where a segment starts.
Can I export a transcript with timestamps?
Yes, as SRT or VTT, which are on the paid plans ($9.99 a month or $89.99 a year). Those two formats carry a start and end time for every cue. TXT, Word and PDF exports contain the plain transcript text without times, and the free plan exports TXT only. In the browser, the times are visible on every plan.
Do timestamps work with video and audio files?
Yes. Timestamps come from the recording's own timeline, so they work the same for an MP3 voice note, an MP4 video, a MOV from a phone or a public YouTube link. You can upload files up to 500 MB and 6 hours long, and clicking a line plays the audio or video from that moment.
Can I create clips using timestamps?
Not inside Hear2Text; it does not cut or edit video. What it gives you is the start and end time of every line, so you can read the transcript, find the moments worth keeping and type those times into Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve or any other editor. Clicking a line lets you listen to it first to confirm it.
Are timestamps included in SRT and VTT subtitle files?
Yes. SRT and VTT exports are numbered cues, each with a start and end time, ready for YouTube, Vimeo, video editors and most players. Edits you make to the text in the browser carry into these files. SRT and VTT are part of the paid plans; the free plan exports TXT only. The subtitles are in the recording's language.
Do timestamps slow down transcription?
No. The timing of each segment is produced during the same transcription pass, not as a separate step, so there is nothing extra to wait for and nothing to switch on. A recording usually takes minutes rather than hours, depending on its length, and the transcript arrives with its timestamps already in place.
